It is very much Spring here in Fort Worth, Texas! If you take a look around you will see signs of spring everywhere. You may even smell it. We put our heads together and came up with a list of things you should look out for this Spring as a pet parent.
Allergies
Yes, it’s gorgeous weather and gorgeous growth everywhere! Just know your pet could be allergic to those beautiful blooms on the patio. Pay close attention if their skin is irritated, eyes are watery, or ear problems. Contact your vet if you suspect anything to get your pal on the right road to a quick recovery. For Itchy dogs, you can make a spray by combining 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup of brewed green tea, and 1 cup of distilled water. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on your pups itchy areas.
Proper ID
License and Registration? No, not exactly what we mean. Now is a great time to ensure your pet’s identification tags are up to date. With nice weather comes more outings, increasing the likelihood of your pet curiously wandering away. Don’t forget the microchip. You will want to take a new picture too! Our pets change as they get older, so be sure to take a new photo. Include images of those special markings (spots, tongue patches, two different eye colors, etc…).
Treatment
Are you on a quarterly treatment? What about your yard? Now is the time to treat those pesky creatures. Don’t forget around the windows, the doors, the fireplace, etc… Do you have a neighbor with pets? Be sure to treat the fence line. There are great organic alternatives too! Please research what you use.
Gardens
Are you refreshing the flower beds? Planting a new garden? Trying something new? Be sure to re-familiarize yourself with the poisonous plant’s lists. If you aren’t sure, pull up google and contact your veterinarian. Please Note: If you think that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA 24-hour emergency poison hotline directly at 1-888-426-4435.
